Written for Auntie Evelyn by Mark Nienaber
We’re here today a family,
‘tween tears and smiles are torn,
For we recognise the light you brought,
And yet we’re here to mourn.
Can anybody comprehend,
The journey you’ve been shown,
from Africa to Bahamas ,
now Australia your home.
Though it’s not the place on earth
That has made your journey Grand,
It is the people that you touched..
while holding truth within your hands.
Our Aunty Eve, our Mum, our Gran,
Our Wife, Sister, or Friend,
So many Roles you played for us,
It must have sent you round the bend!
Yet no matter which face you wore today,
And who that face was for,
You were yourself and told no lie,
For this we cannot ask for more.
Who gets to say their last loved words??
And pass abound with Family??
Our Spartan Woman Evelyn -
Did what she damn well pleased!
Goodbye seems such a silly phrase
To send you on your way,
It does not express our feelings,
For we’ve so much more to say.
But, I think we’ll end on ”Thank you”
It’s been an honour for us all,
Your love, your wit, your honesty,
Has made our family Tall.
A Nuclear Mourning ©
The way it was before the storm
A flash of light
The cause to mourn
A whistle blows to symbol death
As our world takes
It's one last breath
A world so dear, we say we love
But holds the gun
That kills the dove
The dove of peace that brings the light
But we must show
Our strength, our might
Our might created this nuclear blast
A power so great
That nothing could last
The light has spread to capture all
The strong grow weak
The buildings fall
The spirits lost, the bodies melt
No voices heard
No heartbeats felt
Our fauna stripped down to the bone
We long for life
A different tone
With no one else to take the blame
We started this
Now live in shame
A planet once so beauty bound
We mourn for what
Our might once found

MY DREAM ©
I've dreamt of beauty
As pure as white
An angel in mind
And an angel in sight
My dream was short
Yet controlled my all
The thought of wake
Sent my heart to a fall
My dream was perfect
Of gardens of green
Of roses of red
Our love was foreseen
My dream was recurring
Yet regrets can't be found
You stood there before me
I dropped to the ground
My dream became clear
My duty my need
To seek out your love
Off your passion I feed
From my dream I awoke
Yet my heart not in two
My love overwhelms me
My dream has come true

Happy Birthday Darling ©
I'm lying here tonight
Just like all the rest
But I'm thinking of you Darling
And I feel I must confess.
Last night I slept, and while I slept,
My mind began to dream,
I dreamt of us, but not this time,
For we had aged it seemed.
It was very late at night,
We were walking hand in hand,
The waves let out a gentle sigh,
While the moon lit up the sand.
We walked for miles without a word,
The silence said it all,
And every time we parted hands,
I just began to fall.
When I woke, a tear,
Rolled slowly down my cheek,
From Joy to loss and loneliness,
I had not seen you for a week.
It's times like these, when I feel down,
When I've not seen you for some time,
That I know how much I need you,
That I wish that you were mine.
Sometimes we talk and I feel close,
And other times far away,
I feel my words are taken wrong,
So I feel the need to say.
My angel how I love you so,
No matter what I say,
So Happy Birthday Darling,
May this poem make your day.
